Nineteen year old Ben Hughes has been around the internet and technology for over 10 years now. He started out teaching himself HTML at a young age, and soon was creating custom layouts for users of the then-infantile website Neopets, Inc. He created over 100 different profile skins for various users, as well as simple animated icons and banners. Noticing that he had a certain knack for design and the internet in general, Ben decided to further his knowledge.

After learning CSS in one weekend, and then teaching himself web standards and content management, Ben decided to start doing custom design work. He launched Spare Ink Media (SIM) to serve as both a web and print media design company. SIM successfully created and managed client websites, advertising campaigns and online identities until just recently.

The Summer of 2007 started a new era in Ben's online presence. He launched Movlogger, an anonymous video diary that was initially updated using his cell phone, and broadcast to the world through YouTube. The series lasted 14 months, with 479 videos uploaded in all. The channel gained 120+ subscribers and over 245,000 video views (with a continuing average of 400 new views every day). Although the exposure was great, the person behind Movlogger wasn't allowed to come through, and so the entire identity was dropped. Thus, the online emergence of Ben Hughes.

Ben's work in the field of Graphic Design has been featured in the Cape Cod Times, the Chronicle newspaper, and also on various websites and blogs. In June 2008 Ben traveled with two other students from his high school to the National Leadership & Skills conference of SkillsUSA. He represented his state as the Gold medalist in Advertising Design from Massachusetts. He placed 10th out of 42, and received Skills Points recognition for his scores.

Ben was educated in Graphic Design and Advertising at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, and is currently attending the Savannah College of Art & Design. He was a top student in his high school design classes, and now represents his university as a SCAD Student Ambassador.
