Michael Wessel was born in 1968. He grew up in the small town of Ozark, Missouri. His first camera was a Kodak Hawkeye that he picked up at a garage sale. But it wasn’t until 1987 that he found photography, while attending Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. Ed Collings, the professor of photography, taught him the nature of photography. He emerged from college with honors and a BFA in photography.

Pursuing his goal of becoming a photographer, Michael has worked as a portrait photographer for Columbia Photo and later managed the Digital Imaging and framing department. He has worked doing freelance, teaching Photoshop classes, working in small color labs and his small business of processing B/W film. It is through teaching classes that Michael decided to continue towards becoming a teacher. Michael is currently enrolled at Savannah College of Art and Design. His goal is to become a photography professor after he graduates.
